The Who to receive John F Kennedy award
Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey will pick up gong this winter
The Who are set to receive a Kennedy Center Honour on December 7 in Washington for their contribution to American culture.
Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey will receive the award from Caroline Kennedy - the daughter of former US President John F Kennedy.
This winter's award, distributed by The Kennedy Center, will be the first of its kind given to a band.
Elton John is the only previous British musician to receive the honour, being awarded his in 2004.
Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Chuck Berry and Steven Spielberg are among those who have won it in the past.
