The xx played a lunchtime slot in the Festival Republic tent at Leeds Festival today (August 29), during which they thanked the crowd for choosing to watch them over some rivals.

The black-clad London four-piece, flanked by lit-up boxes featuring their 'x' logo, played a well-received set drawing from their recent self-titled Top 40 debut album.

"I know we're competing with Chipmunk and Lethal Bizzle," singer and bassist Oliver Sim told the crowd shortly into the set, referring to the rap acts playing at the same time as them elsewhere on site. "So I'm so glad you're all here."

The band, who had a number of fans sporting 'x' logo t-shirts in the crowd, also covered Womack And Womack's 'Teardrops', before ending their set with 'Night Time'.

'Night Time'

Tonight the Festival Republic tent will be headlined by La Roux, with Lightspeed Champion and Supergrass spin-off band The Hot Rats among the acts playing before them.
