The xx's 'Coexist' revealed as the UK's best-selling vinyl album of 2012 The xx Tickets

The xx's 'Coexist' has been named the best-selling vinyl album in the UK during 2012.
According to figures released by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and The Official Charts Company, the band's second album, released in September, 2012, beat off competition from David Bowie's 'The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars' to claim the top spot.
Bowie's masterpiece was originally released in 1972, but was remastered to commemorate its 40th anniversary, complete with 5:1 surround mix and high resolution audio on an accompanying DVD.
Jack White's 'Blunderbuss', which US-based service SoundScan revealed as their biggest-selling 12" of 2012, was third in the UK chart, while Adele's '21' came fourth.
'The Invisible Band' by Travis remains the 21st Century’s best-selling vinyl album, with 28,700 copies sold on the format since 2001. The second biggest seller of the millennium is 'The King Of Limbs' by Radiohead. It was initially released as a download, then in May 2011 as a special ‘newspaper edition’ that included two 10-inch vinyl records.
Overall vinyl sales grew for the fifth successive year throughout 2012, with a total of 389,000 LPs sold. That marks an increase of 15.3% over 2011’s sales of 337,000.
Geoff Taylor, BPI Chief Executive, said, "With more than 60 years of loyal service, the vinyl LP is by some margin the most enduring album format of all time. Although sales overall are small compared to CD and digital albums, vinyl’s collectability and appeal to audiophiles is drawing in new fans, in particular through initiatives like the popular annual Record Store Day.
"Increasingly LPs also include codes that can be redeemed online for digital albums – giving fans the best of both worlds."
