The xx, Vampire Weekend, Alt-J, Johnny Marr nominated for AIM Independent Music Awards

Major Lazer, Django Django, Grimes and The National are also up for indie gongs

The xx, Vampire Weekend, Alt-J and Johnny Marr are amongst the artists nominated for this year's AIM Independent Music Awards.

The nominations were revealed earlier this evening (August 6) by XFM's John Kennedy at the Gibson Guitar Studio in London. Other artists to receive nominations include Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Daughter, Enter Shikari, Major Lazer, Django Django, Grimes and The National.

10 albums have been nominated in the Independent Album of the Year category, including David Byrne & St Vincent's 'Love This Giant', Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' 'Push the Sky Away', Vampire Weekend's 'Modern Vampires of the City' and The xx's 'Coexist'.

This year's Pioneer Award will be given to Geoff Travis of Rough Trade, whilst the Outstanding Contribution to Music gong goes to Billy Bragg. Five labels will be battling it out to be named Independent Label of the Year, with Bella Union, Cooking Vinyl, Matador, [PIAS] Recordings and Warp Records in the running.

The awards will be given out by Huw Stephens and Steve Lamacq at a ceremony at London's The Brewery on September 3. For a full list of nominees, see below.
