Tom Petty's original band reunite for new album

Mudcrutch also announce intimate Californian residency

Tom Petty's original band reunite for new album
Tom Petty has finished recording an album with his original band Mudcrutch, and has announced several intimate California shows this spring to support it.

Petty fronted Mudcrutch in the early 1970s before he formed the highly successful Heartbreakers. The band consists of guitarist Tom Leadon, drummer Randall Marsh, future Heartbreakers' keyboardist Benmont Tench and guitarist Mike Campbell.

Although Mudcrutch had gained a solid fanbase in their home state of Florida, they broke up after moving to California before they could put out a full-length album. Now they have completed the album they never had the chance to release.

"I just finished a record with Mudcrutch, my old band before the Heartbreakers," Petty said in a statement on the band's fansite. "I am over the moon about it. I couldn't have hoped for it to be as good as it came out."

Mudcrutch are set to play several dates along the California coast in April, concluding with a four-night residency at the Troubadour in Los Angeles.

The tour dates are:

Malibu, CA PAC Midnight Mission Benefit (April 12)
Santa Cruz, CA Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium (14)
San Francisco, CA Fillmore (16, 17)
Santa Barbara, CA Arlington Theatre (19)
Ventura, CA Ventura Theater (20)
Alpine, CA Concerts in The Park (22)
Los Angeles, CA Troubadour (25-29)
