It looks set to be a pretty quiet week for fans of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Because just days before the rockers are due to set off for a world tour, all their gear has been stolen from their rehearsal space in Los Angeles.

The band are offering a $75,000 (£48,000) reward for the safe return of the five guitars, which include Petty's 1967 12-string blonde Rickenbacker 360 and his 1965 Gibson SGTV Junior, as well as a Fender Broadcaster belonging to bassist Ron Blair, and guitars belonging to Scott Thurston and Mike Campbell.

The band said on their website that there would be "no questions asked" to anyone with information about the whereabouts of any items in the musical swag bag.

The guitars were reported stolen on Thursday (April 12) from a studio in Culver City, west of Los Angeles, where the band was rehearsing for their US tour, which is set to open in Broomfield, Colorado, tomorrow (18). The European leg of the tour is due to kick off in Dublin on June 7, and includes two sold-out dates at London's Royal Albert Hall on June 18 and 20.

Police are investigating the theft. More information can be found on the gear at the band's website.
