Tom Vek has spoken out about his five-year hiatus in an exclusive comeback interview, saying: "I don't know what I would have done differently."

Vek was speaking in new issue of NME, which is on UK newsstands tomorrow (May 18) or available digitally.

Vek is back with new single 'A Chore' and album 'Leisure Seizure', his first new material since 2005's debut album 'We Have Sound'. And having laboured over the album for an epic length of time, the musician has admitted that from his point of view, he had no choice.

He said: "The problem is, I don’t know what I would have done differently. I always maintained that the next piece of news was that there was a new album. It's necessary to be mysterious about your operations when they’re a mystery to you!"

He added: "I'm not trying to turn round and say it was all deliberate, but looking back, I want to be positive about the situation I’ve ended up in, so being the delirious optimist, I’ll say it was all deliberate."

'Leisure Seizure' is due for release on June 6.
