Tom Waits ends tour speculation with 'Hell Broke Luce' video – watch

The singer songwriter releases the video for the driving 'Bad As Me' track

Tom Waits has put an end to rumours of a forthcoming tour, instead releasing the video to the song 'Hell Broke Luce', from his 2011 album, 'Bad As Me'.

The eccentric singer songwriter was thought to be announcing a rare tour today, but instead, online teasers released by the star were trailing the new video, which you can watch above.

Speaking about the video, Waits said:

As most of you guessed, it's a tour… a tour de force!

He continued: "Matt Mahurin has created an apocalyptic war dream to accompany the song 'Hell Broke Luce'. Kathleen [Brennan, Waits' wife and artistic collaborator] and I envisioned it as an enlightened drill sergeant yelling the hard truths of war to a brand new batch of recruits. The video grew from the gnawing image of a soldier pulling his home through a battlefield at the end of a rope. I think you will agree, it's uplifting and fun."

'Hell Broke Luce' features Marc Ribot and Keith Richards on guitar, Flea on bass and Waits' son Casey on drums.

Recently, rumours started circulating online that the late Heath Ledger may have based his performance as The Joker on Tom Waits.

The speculation was sparked by a 1979 TV interview with Waits, which has recently been discovered on YouTube by Batman fans. During the interview, Waits' speaking voice and mannerisms display an uncanny similarity to Ledger's memorable portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight. Scroll down to watch the interview.
