Friends and family remember Factory Records legend

Mourners gathered for the funeral of Tony Wilson in Manchester today (August 20).

The service took place at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, known as the Hidden Gem.

Members of the public were asked to send flowers or make a donation to the Christie Hospital after his family requested that they be allowed to grieve privately.

New Order’s Peter Hook and Stephen Morris and Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder were among the mourners at the private service.

Talks are already under way for a public service to mark the life of Wilson, as well as a permanent memorial in the city, reports the BBC.
