The annual In The City music conference in Manchester, which was founded by the late Tony Wilson and his partner Yvette Livesey, will not take place this year, reports the BBC.

The conference and music symposium was set up in order to offer a platform for new bands and artists to reach music industry heavyweights in 1992, with events and talks during the day and gigs at night.

Oasis, Coldplay, Muse and Arctic Monkeys are some of the acts that have appeared at In The City over the years.

Although the event was said to be lacking funding, meaning that it had to be held in a smaller venue than usual last year, Livesey has given the reason for this year’s cancellation as down to her wanting to start a family and has promised the event will return next year.

"I am also getting married and having a baby this year so I have made the decision to take a year-long sabbatical,” she said in a statement. “Although there will not be an In The City this year, we are going to have the opportunity to plan an amazing event to celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2012."
