Tory MP couple reveal why they call their son ‘Brexit’

Andrea Jenkyns and Jack Lopresti welcomed their son into the world back in March

Tory MPs Andrea Jenkyns and Jack Lopresti have revealed why they’ve given their infant son the nickname ‘Brexit’.

The two Brexiteer politicians had their first-born son, Clifford, back in March. The boy was given the name in honour of Jenkyns’ late father.

Speaking after the couple married at the Palace of Westminster back in December, Jenkyns praised baby Clifford’s small role in the ceremony.

“I am absolutely delighted to have married Jack here and was lucky enough to have our son, Clifford, as ring bearer,” she said [via Metro]. “I would like to thank my mother Valerie for walking me down the aisle today and for her love and support.

“My father Clifford, whom my son is named after, died six years ago and my thoughts and prayers were with him,” she added, before revealing more about the inspiration behind her son’s nickname.

“Baby Clifford was nicknamed ‘Brexit Clifford’ when he was born on the day Article 50 was triggered in Parliament” – which occurred on March 29, 2017.

Last month, it was estimated that Britain’s so-called “divorce bill” for deciding to leave the EU could cost the country as much as £39 billion.
