‘Total Recall’ set for ‘animated’ remake

'Underworld''s Len Wiseman in line to direct

Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s 1990 film Total Recall is set for a remake, with director Len Wiseman in line to take control.

Wiseman, who directed Underworld and Die Hard 4.0, is in final talks with Sony to helm the new and contemporary version of Total Recall, reports Deadline.com.

The script is being written by Kurt Wimmer, who wrote the screenplay for the upcoming Angelina Jolie film Salt.

If Wiseman signs a deal, it could be a blow for Fox and Bruce Willis, who had previously expressed interest in having him direct Die Hard 5.

The original film, directed by Paul Verhoeven starred Schwarzenegger as a freedom fighter from Mars, and was based on the story We Can Remember it For You Wholesale by Philip K Dick.

The remake is being described as “computerized animation”.

“I’ve always been fascinated with Philip K Dick‘s short story, and I’m excited at that prospect of diving even deeper into the type of world it evokes and the questions it asks,” Wiseman explained. “I love that the most crucial mystery our character is trying to solve is the one of his own soul.”
