Tricky has cancelled this week's UK dates and a forthcoming European tour after contracting a form of the fungal infection candida.

He said: "It's a shame. I was looking forward to playing my music to the fans in Europe. In particular, playing Bristol for the first time in my life was something I really wanted to do. As soon as I'm feeling better, I plan to be back on the road."

A spokesman said: "He's been ordered not to travel for six weeks, so it's hard to say when the gigs will be rescheduled."

As a result, his forthcoming gigs at Portsmouth Pyramid Rooms (September 30) , Bristol Colston Hall (October 1) and Dublin RDF (3) have been cancelled. Refunds are available from the venues concerned.
