TV On The Radio star tells of Bowie meeting

TV On The Radio have told of their friendship with David Bowie.

The mutual appreciation society led to the singer duetting with the band on 'Province', a track from the band's acclaimed 2006 album 'Return To Cookie Mountain'.

Singer Tunde Adebimpe has revealed the rock legend called the band so he could meet them, and this resulted in the collaboration.

He said: “We were at a gas station and Dave (Sitek) got the phone call and hung up the phone, ‘cause he thought it was our friend Julian pulling another joke: ‘Yeah, you’re David Bowie, right.’ He called him back two more times and said ‘No, I’m really David Bowie.”

The two teamed up in New York and Adebimpe said: “He listened to the record half-finished and chose that song. ('Province').”

Adebimpe told Pittsburgh’s Post Gazette: "It's not like he landed on the roof of the building and it was 'And now, David Bowie'."
