A man on ‘Catfish: The TV Show’ was fooled into thinking he was dating Katy Perry for six years

But he was actually chatting to a woman called Harriet from Gloucester

The latest episode of Catfish: The TV Show focuses on a man who was tricked into thinking he was dating Katy Perry for six years.

Spencer Morrill says during the episode that he had an “instant connection” with the woman purporting to be the pop singer, saying: “She’s awesome. Katy’s funnier than I am, she’s smarter than I am. I don’t know how many people give her credit for that, but she’s very intelligent. Katy’s full of life, huge heart.”

He even said he had splashed out on an engagement ring despite only speaking to her on the phone once in six years.

However, he learns during the episode that he was actually chatting to a woman called Harriet from Gloucester who was posing as the ‘Roar’ singer.

“For me it was enjoyable, but there’s also that kind of realisation that I’ve lost myself in that,” Harriet tells Spencer after he finds out. “I just got to a point to where I couldn’t imagine not talking to you. I’ve been through some tough times throughout the time we’ve been talking the past six years. Like, my dad died two years ago.”

“I’m genuinely sorry,” she adds. “I can’t change what I did, but I understand that it was really wrong.”

The real Katy Perry has yet to respond to the episode, which aired in the US last night (August 18). Watch the first 10 minutes of the episode below.
