The BBC are set to launch a new televised singing contest to choose the UK entry for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
Eurovision: You Decide has been described as a X Factor-style show and will be hosted by Great British Bake-off presenter Mel Giedroyc.
The show will air on BBC 4 next month (February 26) live from The Forum in London. It will be the first time in six years that a televised show will determine the UK’s Eurovision representative.
“I am a huge fan of Eurovision and am honoured to be hosting this fantastic event,” Giedroyc said of the news. “It’s very exciting that the great British public will get the chance to choose who will be sent to Sweden and I know it’s going to be an amazing night.”
Last year, swing duo Electro Velvet (pictured below) were selected to represent the UK internally by the BBC. They received just five points, coming in 24th position out of the 27 countries to make it to the final.
