She appeared on the show in 2009

Transgender Big Brother star Rebekah Shelton has spoken out after her Twitter account was compromised by a hacker who claimed that she had died.

“We ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this time.”

Now, Shelton has posted a video to confirm that she is alive and well – and claimed that the news of her death was posted by a hacker.

“Hi everyone, I want to kindly ask please stop spreading the rumour that I’m dead, because obviously I’m not”, she said.

“I’ve been through hell today because someone used my twitter account to write that stupid status about me.

“This person can’t accept the fact that I’m happy, and I overcame all my problems and that I’m finally living my life happy. I’m on holiday,  I’m in Arabia and I’m not dead.”

Shelton appeared on the show during its Channel 4 run in 2009, where she eventually finished in fifth place.

She began living as a woman in 2012, after successfully undergoing gender transition surgery in 2012.

“I’ve had to fight for acceptance. I was not born wanting to be a transsexual, or a boy, or a straight boy, or a girl,” she previously said of her transition.

“I think my appearance on the show [Big Brother] helped me to get to know myself better.

“It gave me the acceptance I had been looking for my entire life – I started dressing like the girls, and I felt like I was getting to know myself better with every new piece of clothing.”

In 2014, Shelton also recovered after she fell into a coma following the discovery of a brain tumour which was later removed.
