Cheryl confirms she will not return to ‘The X Factor’

Judge and pop star will focus on recording new solo album

Cheryl has become the latest person to leave The X Factor.

The judge and popstar, who has recently gone under the name Cheryl Fernandez-Versini until her divorce from husband Jean Bernard, announced the news in a statement released this morning (April 5).

Cheryl’s departure follows the news that Nick Grimshaw, who lined up alongside her on the 2015 panel with Simon Cowell and Rita Ora, also won’t feature on this year’s series. The future of Rita Ora remains to be seen while Cowell is expected to return.

“I’ve missed making music. I have had such an amazing experience being a judge on The X Factor,” the former Girls Aloud member said. “I have learnt so much and enjoyed nurturing talent but I’ve missed making music and am excited to be recording again.

In response Simon Cowell added: “Cheryl and myself spoke about this. I totally understand her commitment to making more records.”
