Fans are predicting a David Bowie song will be the advert's soundtrack this year

This year’s John Lewis Christmas advert will reportedly air shortly, with fans predicting that it will include a David Bowie cover.

Many viewers look forward to the UK department store’s festive adverts for their heartwarming storylines and emotional soundtracks. The campaigns traditionally feature solo musicians covering rock and pop classics. Last year saw Norwegian singer Aurora cover Oasis’ ‘Half The World Away’.

A report from Campaign suggests that the new campaign will launch on Thursday, November 10. However, for the past few years the ad has been released on the first Friday of November.

This year fans are predicting a David Bowie song to feature in the ad following the music icon’s death in January.

Last year’s Oasis cover proved a controversial choice, with Liam Gallagher labelling brother Noel a “sell out” for agreeing to the song being used.

Rumoured to be directing this year’s advert is Dougal Wilson, who has directed the store’s past five Christmas campaigns. This includes ‘The Long Wait’, which saw a little boy counting down the days until Christmas to give his parents their gift, and ‘The Man On The Moon’, which saw an elderly man in space communicating with a young girl on earth through a telescope.
