A sneak peak of this year’s festive outing, titled The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe, was previewed during the BBC’s annual charity television telethon. The episode, which was penned by Steven Moffat, will see Matt Smith‘s Doctor travel back to England during the time of World War II and combat spacemen and an enchanted forest.

Claire Skinner of BBC sitcom Outnumbered will appear in the episode – which is expected to be broadcast on Christmas day – while other stars set to feature include Bill Bailey, Arabella Weir and Alexander Armstrong.

Fans of the show also have the chance to win the outfit that Smith wore in the episode ‘The Doctor’s Wife’ on Children In Need. An auction will run throughBBC.co.uk/Pudsey and stay open until Monday, November 21. The successful bidder will also win a copy of the sketch script, signed by Moffat and Smith.

Smith said: “I’d say the tweed jacket or the bow-tie are the most iconic – although the boots are my personal favourite. I hope people donate generously for BBC Children In Need because it’s a wonderful cause – and we’ve got to beat last year’s total.”
