In the clip, Clare Danes’ CIA officer Carrie Bradshaw is seen both investigating the terror attack at the CIA headquarters which was the climax to the second season, as well as seemingly being admitted inside a psychiatric ward as a patient. Damien Lewis’ troubled war veteran Brody, meanwhile, is now sporting a new shaven-headed hairstyle and is seemingly on the run, and is also shown firing a shotgun during a chase scene in a rainforest.
Other characters included in the clip are Mandy Patinkin’s Saul Berenson, Rupert Friend’s assassin Peter Quinn and estranged members of Brody’s family – at one point his daughter Dana, played by Morgan Saylor, unfurling his old prayer mat.
US network Showtime has already released an official plot synopsis for the third season of its acclaimed spy drama. The synopsis teases: “Homeland season three opens during the aftermath of the horrific terror attack that decimated the US intelligence apparatus, and prompted a global manhunt for the world’s most wanted terrorist – Nick Brody (Damian Lewis).”
Showrunner Alex Gansa has since warned viewers that this set-up will probably affect Brody’s screen time. “You have to understand where he is. He is the most wanted man on the planet. By definition, he’s going to be hiding somewhere. And if he’s hiding, that limits what he can do,” Gansa explained last month (June).
Since launching in 2011, Homeland has been a hit with viewers and critics alike. Earlier this year, the show beat Breaking Bad and Mad Men to win the Best TV Drama award at the Golden Globes. The new season will comprise 12 episodes and premieres in the US on September 29 before beginning on Channel 4 shortly afterwards.
