Controversial contestant was booted off on Sunday's show

X Factor viewers have been reacting to the news that controversial contestant Honey G has been booted off the show.

The 35-year-old white rapper from Harrow in North-West London – or “North Weezy” as she calls it – has been the major talking point of this year’s series, with some calling her act a problematic parody of hip-hop culture. The Guardian‘s Lola Okolosie recently argued that her performance on the show is “modern-day blackface”.

The reality TV contestant has seen herself accused of being an actress by a member of Little Mix and described as “taking the mickey out of rap” by Professor Green. Lily Allen has also described Honey G as “offensive”, adding that the act was “so wrong on so many levels”.

Honey G was voted off the show by the judges on Sunday night’s show (November 27), with fans taking to Twitter to react. One fan, who also referred to Ed Balls’ departure on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, tweeted: “After Brexit & Trump, the world has finally come to its senses, with Ed Balls & Honey G both going out tonight”.

Radio 1 presenter Clara Amfo added: “Was waiting for Honey G to rip off her cap,say everything was a satirical protest and shout ‘Black lives matter’ sadly that didn’t happen.” See more responses below.
