ITV issue apology after playing ‘Gold Digger’ clip over footage of Duncan Bannatyne and his girlfriend

'Dragon's Den' star is dating Nigora Whitehorn

ITV have been forced to apologise after a clip of Kanye West song ‘Gold Digger’ was played over a clip of millionaire Duncan Bannatyne reuniting with his girlfriend Nigora Whitehorn.

The clip was shown on an ITV2 spin-off of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! earlier this week (December 9). Dragon’s Den businessman Bannatyne was a contestant on this year’s series of the reality show.

Viewers took to Twitter to remark on the choice of music for a scene in which 66 year old Bannatyne was shown leaving the jungle and reuniting with 35-year-old partner Nigora Whitehorn. West’s hit single was played over the top of a scene in which the couple went shopping together and returned to their hotel with many large bags of purchases.

ITV’s Creative Director of Entertainment Richard Cowles has since apologised for the footage, saying he does not believe it was a comment on the pair’s relationship.

Cowles told The Huffington Post: “We cannot apologise enough for this – it is in no way how we regard Duncan’s relationship with Nigora. In fact, quite the opposite.

“Unfortunately the music choice, if indeed it had been laid down, slipped past me when I viewed an early cut in the edit. I cannot apologise enough and truly regret that this has happened,” he added. “Duncan was a fantastic camp mate and I wouldn’t want his experience of the show sullied by this.”

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! ended last week (December 6) with reality TV star Vicky Pattison crowned the winner.
