With the premiere of the fifth season of the satirical currents affairs programme just under four weeks away, Oliver has appeared in a new trailer which carries the tagline “everything is fine”.

The clip itself sees Oliver receiving a range of increasingly-ridiculous breaking news alerts on his smartphone, with the final one carrying the simple instruction: “Run!”

Late last year, Oliver won plaudits for his public grilling of Dustin Hoffman over the sexual assault allegations that have been levelled at the actor.

Asked a few weeks later about the interview, Oliver expressed regret that the conversation with Hoffman – which took place during a panel to mark the 20th anniversary of the film Wag The Dog – hadn’t “become something more constructive”, adding: “I tried and failed.”
