Actor will return to the series, but not as director this time
Jon Favreau will appear in Iron Man 3, despite stepping aside as director.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director Shane Black is taking over for Robert Downey Jr‘s next outing as Tony Stark. But Favreau, who directed the first two movies, will once again appear as Stark’s sidekick and bodyguard Happy Hogan, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
He will also serve as a co-executive producer alongside Kevin Feige on the movie, which began production this week in North Carolina.
Gwyneth Paltrow is set to return as love interest Pepper Potts, with Don Cheadle also returning to the series as Lt Colonel James Rhodes. However, it is unclear whether Scarlett Johansson will be back as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, or whether the Avengers character will next be seen in a movie of her own.
Guy Pearce is on board to play geneticist Aldrich Killian, while Sir Ben Kingsley is also likely to appear as a villain. Meanwhile, Mark Ruffalo has suggested that he could appear in the film as Bruce Banner/Hulk. He said recently: “I’m sure there’s a way for me to find my way into that. We work well together. I’m a good foil for him.”
