'24: Legacy' will launch in the US next year
24: Legacy producer Howard Gordon has confirmed that Jack Bauer will return at some point in the new spin off.
It comes after Sutherland recently stopped short of saying that he would never reprise the role.
“I’ve said that twice and have been wrong, so I won’t say that again,” he said.
The actor played the role of Jack Bauer in the previous seasons of the popular action show, which is based around a counter-terrorism unit and their day-long response to a different terrorist attack every season.
Gordon has now told Empire magazine: “Our intention is definitely to bring some of the old people into this story,” he said. “Up to and including Kiefer, once this show gets its legs.” You can watch a trailer for the new series below.
24: Legacy will be set in the same universe as past series of the show and stars Web Therapy‘s Dan Bucatinsky and Straight Outta Compton‘s Corey Hawkins, among others.
“It’s a phenomenal script,” Sutherland recently said of the new series. “I think it’s going to be incredibly liberating for the writers to not have to figure out one more bad day for Jack Bauer. They get to write for new characters. And Bauer’s still out there, so you never know what’s going to happen.”
Sutherland is starring in a new TV series, Designated Survivor, and also recently announced details of a folk album.
24: Legacy will be launched in the post-Super Bowl slot on Fox in the US, on Monday, February 5 at 8pm.
