Louis C.K. on the presidential election: “If you don’t vote for anybody, you’re an asshole”

The comedian also backed Hillary Clinton in next week's race for the White House

Louis C.K. has spoken out about next week’s US presidential election, saying that those who don’t vote are “assholes.”

The comedian appeared on Conan last night – which is being broadcast this week from the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York City – when the eponymous host asked his opinion on the forthcoming vote, which is pitting Democrat Hillary Clinton against Republican Donald Trump in the race to be the next President.

C.K. spoke about several issues relating to the election in his answer, including Trump’s inability to take on board criticism (“this guy, every time he’s criticised, everything stops and he makes everybody pay”) and possible voter apathy from young, liberal voters.

“If you don’t vote at all – like a liberal who’s not gonna vote, you’re a piece of shit,” C.K. said, before returning to the point a little later on. “If you vote for Hillary, you’re a grown-up. If you vote for Trump, you’re a sucker. If you don’t vote for anyone, you’re an asshole.”

While C.K. said that he wouldn’t have a problem with anyone who voted for Trump, the comedian did endorse Clinton, saying that “she’s really talented, super-smart and I’d take her over anybody else that would do it.”

“To me, it’s very exciting to have the first mother in the White House. It’s not about the first woman, it’s the first mom,” C.K. said about the Democrat. “Because a mother, she does it: she feeds you, she teaches you, she takes care of you. We’ve had 240 years of fathers – bald fathers, fat fathers – all kinds of fathers… A great father can give a kid 40% of his needs, tops. [While] any mother – even a not-trying-mother – will give you 200%”.
