Model, actor and TV presenter Sam Sarpong has died at the age of 40.

Sarpong – brother of former T4 presenter June – jumped to his death from a bridge in Pasadena, California on Monday. The local coroner’s office has said his death is being investigated as a possible suicide, though the cause will not be confirmed until toxicology tests are completed.

Samuel Osei “Sam” Sarpong, Jr. was born in London but moved to California with his father at the age of 11. During a highly successful modelling career, he appeared in catwalk shows for high-fashion brands including Versace, Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana, and served as the face of Tommy Hilfiger for six years.

He also co-hosted the MTV reality series Yo Momma, which revolved around celebrities insulting their mothers, for three seasons from 2006-7.

Sarpong worked prolifically as an actor over the last decade as well, making guest appearance in US TV dramas including Bones, 24 and Veronica Mars.

US rapper and TV presenter Nick Cannon paid tribute on Instagram last night, describing Sarpong as a “great soul” with a “great heart”.
