Emmy award winner Jason Katims to create pilot
British film About A Boy, starring Hugh Grant and Nicholas Hoult, is to be developed into a US TV show by NBC.
Friday Night Lights and Parenthood producer Jason Katims has been commissioned to create a half an hour pilot for the show, which will go by the same name.
The 2002 film, also starring Rachel Weisz and Toni Collette, is based on the novel by Nick Hornby and tells the story of an awkward 12 year-old who befriends a selfish bachelor and develops a friendship that comes to redefine both of their lives.
So far only one change to the original film has been announced for the TV series and that’s that the bachelor will live next door to the child and his hippy Mum.
A previous attempt to adapt About A Boy for the small screen was made in 2003 when Fox ordered a presentation written by Matthew Carlson, directed by Ken Kwapis and starring Patrick Dempsey, but nothing developed from it.
This marks a return to comedy for the Emmy award winner Jason Katims who will write and produce.
