Next Game of Thrones book will feature twist with dead character from TV show

George RR Martin says next novel will have a character that’s dead in the show

George RR Martin has confirmed that there’ll be a twist in his upcoming novel, The Winds Of Winter, surrounding a character that’s already been killed off in the Game Of Thrones TV show.

The author explained that he’d been deliberating over the plot for a couple of years. This new development means that the on-going plots of the TV show and the novels will split even more.

Speaking to IGN, Martin said: “I have decided to do it. Will you know it? I don’t know. It is fairly obvious because it is something that involves a couple of characters, one of which is dead on the show, and not dead in the books. So the show can’t do it, unfortunately, because they have killed someone I have not killed.”

At this point it’s anyone’s guess who this character could be, as Martin explained they’ve killed off far more characters in the show, he explained: “at this point there are like 15 characters who are dead on the show who are still alive on the books.”

Some fans had become concerned about seeing spoilers for the next book in the show, however Martin reassured them that the plots are diverging: “Some of the ‘spoilers’ you may encounter in season six may not be spoilers at all … because the show and the books have diverged, and will continue to do so.”

Last month the writer confirmed he has missed the deadline to publish his next book before season 6 of the TV show, which begins in April.
