BBC Radio 1 DJ says his stint on the show was a 'once in a lifetime style thing'
Nick Grimshaw has confirmed that he will not be returning to The X Factor this year.
The BBC Radio 1 DJ joined the show’s judging panel last year, sitting alongside fellow new recruit Rita Ora and show stalwarts Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.
As the show’s winner Louisa Johnson joined him on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show this morning, Grimshaw took the opportunity to announce that he has decided not to attempt a second stint on the panel.
“I did love it and it’s not a diss to the show. It’s a great show and I loved it. But it’s definitely a once in a lifetime style thing,” Grimshaw explained.
He added jokingly: “You can’t have a curry when you’re on it on a Saturday night because you’re there. What’s really good about X Factor is watching it at your house with your friends, having a curry. When you’re there, there’s no curry. Simon promised me curry!”
Despite the show’s falling ratings, ITV has recently confirmed that The X Factor will remain part of its primetime programming “into 2017 and beyond”.
At present, the show has yet to firm up its 2016 judging panel or presenting lineup, though speculation in the media suggests that last year’s hosts Olly Murs and Caroline Flack are unlikely to be asked back.
