The actor who played Screech on the cult 1990s teen comedy has violated the rules of his probation
Dustin Diamond, who played Screech on Saved By The Bell, has been sent back to jail on a probation hold.
Diamond was originally sentenced in June 2015 for stabbing a man during a fight at a bar in Wisconsin on Christmas Day 2014, although the 39-year-old claimed that he took a knife out to defend himself and his girlfriend before accidentally stabbing a man. He was found guilty on two counts, carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct, and began his four-month sentence in January, going on to serve three months before being released on probation.
However, Diamond has felt the force of the law once again due to a probation hold, which refers to the offender’s probation officer believing that the offender has not complied with the terms of their probation.
While no new charges have been filed against Diamond, if the incident that led to the violation investigation is serious enough, Diamond could have his parole revoked.
Diamond played Samuel “Screech” Powers in the iconic US teen show and several spin-off series between 1988 and 2000, also appearing on Celebrity Big Brother in the UK in 2013.
In 2009, Diamond published a memoir about his time on the show titled Behind The Bell, which painted an unflattering portrait of his former castmates. Diamond has since insisted that the book was ghost written and statements he made in interviews to its actual author were later fabricated or exaggerated.
