‘South Park’ to return for 19th season in September

Cult animated sitcom is now confirmed to run until at least 2019

South Park is to return for its 19th season on September 16 on Comedy Central.

The show confirmed its return date on Twitter last night (July 27).

The 19th season of South Park, now the third longest-running animated series of all time behind The Simpsons and Arthur, will feature 10 episodes. Earlier this month (July) Comedy Central renewed South Park until 2019, meaning the cult sitcom will now run for at least 23 seasons and over 300 episodes.

South Park remains the bedrock of Comedy Central and we are thrilled that new episodes will continue to entertain audiences for years to come,” the network’s president Michele Ganeless said in a statement. “The series remains as urgent and relevant now as the day it premiered and at nearly 20 seasons in it continues to draw generations of new fans.”

The show’s co-creator Matt Stone has recently vowed to keep making South Park for as long as the show is wanted. “We won’t stop until we get cancelled,” he told IGN in June. “We’re renewing. They have to fucking cancel us, goddammit!”
