The 30-minute special will debut online before being shown during 'Walking Dead' ad breaks
Fear The Walking Dead is to introduce a new character in a one-off special set in mid air.
The 30-minute special will follow the self-contained story of a zombie attack that takes place on a passenger aeroplane while it’s in flight. The one passenger who survives the attack will join the cast of Fear The Walking Dead – the recently-launched Walking Dead spin-off series – during its second season.
The special will premiere online, Entertainment Weekly reports, but will be also be shown in instalments during The Walking Dead‘s advertising breaks on AMC in the US. Further details about the special are currently unknown.
Fear The Walking Dead debuted in the US on Sunday and scored the best ever debut by a US cable series, with 10.1m viewers tuning in to watch the 90-minute premiere.
In the UK, Fear The Walking Dead will begin on Monday (August 31) when AMC launches in the UK. The UK channel will be available exclusively to BT customers through BT TV.
The spin-off series is set in the midst of the same zombie apocalypse as The Walking Dead, but takes place in a different location, Los Angeles, and focuses on different characters and storylines. The spin-off has been co-created by Robert Kirkman, whose graphic novel also provided the basis for The Walking Dead.
Its main cast includes young British actor Frank Dillane, who played Tom Riddle in Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, Orange Is The New Black‘s Elizabeth Rodriguez, Missing‘s Cliff Curtis and former Treme star Kim Dickens.
