Three new cast members join ‘The X-Files’ 2016 event series

Lauren Ambrose, Robbie Amell and Kumail Nanjiani will all appear in an episode of the event series

Three new cast members have joined The X-Files‘ 2016 event series.

Fox announced yesterday (July 21) that Six Feet Under actress Lauren Ambrose will appear in one episode of the event series as the “sharp, confident” Agent Einstein, while The Flash actor Robbie Amell will appear in one episode as the “smart, smooth” Agent Miller. Meanwhile, Silicon Valley‘s Kumail Nanjiani has revealed on Twitter that he will also be appearing in an episode of the event series and shared a picture himself on set with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

Fox confirmed in March that it is bringing back The X-Files for a six-episode “event series”, with Chris Carter returning as executive producer. Shooting is taking place now in Vancouver, Canada and the first teaser trailer for the event series has recently been released.

Also starring alongside Duchovny and Anderson are Mitch Pileggi, who is reprising his role as FBI boss Walter Skinner, and William B. Davis, who is returning as Mulder and Scully’s nemesis ‘The Smoking Man’. Meanwhile, Community‘s Joel McHale has been cast as a conservative web TV news anchor and Flight Of The Conchords‘ Rhys Darby will play a man suspected by Mulder to be the perpetrator of a series of animal attacks.

Fox has recently announced that it will air episode one of the event series on Sunday, January 25, followed by episode two on Monday, January 26. The remaining episodes of the event series will air on Fox on subsequent Monday nights. At present, the event series has yet to be picked up by a UK broadcaster.

The cult sci-fi show originally aired on Fox for nine seasons between 1993 and 2002 and also spawned a pair of spin-off films, released in 1998 and 2008. Fox first revealed in January that it was having “conversations” about reviving the much-loved series.
