'Twilight' star in Guantanamo Bay drama
Kristen Stewart stars as a young army recruit sent to work at Guantanamo Bay in the first trailer for the drama Camp X-Ray.
Peter Sattler has previously worked as a graphic designer on films like Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line and Star Trek. The writer/director took his debut film to the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year where Twilight star Stewart earned positive reviews for her portrayal of Pvt. Amy Cole.
“Make no mistake about it, this a war zone,” warns her commanding officer in the first trailer to hit the web. The film’s synopsis reveals Cole has joined the military “to be part of something bigger than herself and her small town roots” but the unfortunate rookie “ends up as a new guard at Guantanamo Bay instead”.
“Her mission is far from black and white. Surrounded by hostile jihadists and aggressive squadmates, she strikes up an unusual friendship with one of the detainees (played by Peyman Maadi). A story of two people, on opposite sides of a war, struggling to find their way through the ethical quagmire of Guantanamo Bay. And in the process, they form an unlikely bond that changes them both.”
Camp X-Ray will reach cinemas this autumn.
