Watch Tommy Shelby take on the Russians in the first full-length trailer

The trailer for Peaky Blinders season three has been released, ahead of its premiere on May 5.

Starring Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, Peaky Blinders focuses on a ruthless gang in a post World War I Birmingham. The return of the drama comes after a gap of around 18 months, with the final episode of series 2 having aired in November 2014. It’s based around a criminal gang of the same name, and their expanding empire.

Series two reached its finale in the year 1922, with ‘Derby Day’ at Epsom race course. Paddy Considine (the star of the Arctic Monkeys video ‘Leave Before the Lights Come On’) will join the cast for the third series.

The new trailer sees the return of Tom Hardy in the role of Alfie Solomons. As someone in the trailer says “They are very dangerous people,” Hardy simply replies “So are we”.

Creator Steven Knight stated that Hardy will enter “a glamorous and dangerous world of international intrigue”, with consequences reaching beyond the West Midlands that could place his empire and the Shelby family at risk.

Talking to Digital Spy, he continued: “I am genuinely thrilled at the prospect of season three. I think it will be the best yet. Lots of things familiar but lots of things are new.

“It’s still a Birmingham story and it always will be. Now, it has international consequences. I can’t wait to see it myself.” The BBC say “Series three sees Tommy Shelby pulled into the glamorous and dangerous world of international intrigue in 1920s Britain, putting his entire organisation and family at risk, and forcing him to question everything about his own ambitions and desires.”

Peaky Blinders season three is set to air on May 5. Watch the trailer below.
