Created by Tina Fey and former 30 Rock executive producer Robert Carlock, the Netflix original series is a 30-minute comedy about a woman trying to build a new life in New York City after spending 15 years living underground in a doomsday cult.
Season one launched on Netflix in March 2015 and won largely positive reviews. It later received six Emmy nominations including one for Outstanding Comedy Series.
The show proved popular with viewers too, with around three million US Netflix subscribers watching at least one episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt during its first 30 days of availability.
According to Netflix, “season two kicks off with Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) looking for a new job, Titus (Tituss Burgess) forced to face his past with the appearance of his ex-wife and Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski) rediscovering her roots while landlady Lillian (Carol Kane) finds a surprising romance”.
Season two will contain 13 original episodes, all launching on April 15. Netflix has already ordered a third season to air in 2017.
Season two of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will be followed by season two of another acclaimed Netflix comedy, Grace And Frankie starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, which launches on May 6.
