‘X Factor’ presenter Caroline Flack admits she and Olly Murs ‘aren’t at Dermot O’Leary’s level’

Flack also insists that the show's boss Simon Cowell is 'really pleased' with the presenting duo

X Factor presenter Caroline Flack has conceded that she and co-host Olly Murs have yet to reach the “level” of their predecessor Dermot O’Leary.

Flack and Murs, who previously hosted ITV2 spin-off show The Xtra Factor, have been heavily criticised since they replaced O’Leary at the helm of the main ITV singing contest earlier this year.

“I admit we might not be at Dermot’s level right now but he is the best there is, no one is better in my opinion,” Flack told the Daily Star.

“We’ve only had five weeks, Dermot had eight years. Yes, we are still finding our feet but we are working extremely hard and enjoying it. I knew stepping into Dermot’s shoes would be impossible, I wouldn’t say it’s a poison chalice but I knew we’d be criticised.”

During a recent Sunday night results show, Murs appeared to announce the name of the eliminated contestant prematurely, telling Monica Michael she had been voted off the competition before the decision went to deadlock. Flack quickly stepped in to correct her co-host, and Murs later apologised for what he called a “massive fuck up”.

Defending her relatively inexperienced co-host, Flack added: “People also need to remember Olly is a pop star not a presenter but he’s doing brilliantly. We come off buzzing and it isn’t until you then hear all the negative comments that you doubt yourself.”

She also refuted tabloid rumours that the show’s boss Simon Cowell is unhappy with her and Murs, insisting: “Simon’s really pleased with us. I find him really easy to work with.”
