BONO is one of the inaugural recipients of the TED PRIZE – earning $100,000 with which to grant three wishes.
Honoured for campaigning to reduce the burden of third world debt, the U2 frontman is one of three winners "whose work was capable of transcending boundaries and making a significant impact on our shared future," according to Billboard.
He joins medical technologies pioneer Robert Fischell and Canadian photo artist Edward Burtynsky. The three wishes of each winner will be revealed at the TED Conference, to be held February 23-26 in Monterey, California. Standing for ‘Technology, Entertainment, Design’, the annual event brings together "leading opinion formers" to share ideas.
Meanwhile, U2 are rumoured to have signed a landmark deal with Apple Computer which would create the first artists custom-made iPods, which would come with new album ‘How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb’ pre-loaded on the week of release.
Although no parties will confirm any arrangement, new single ‘Vertigo’ features on a TV ad for the iPod, and emails from Bono, The Edge and Apple CEO Steve Jobs have reportedly invited members of the press to a ‘special event’ on October 16.
‘How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb’ is released on November 22.
