U2, [/a] and the SCISSOR SISTERS are set to perform live at the 2005 BRIT AWARDS.

The ceremony, which has been dubbed the Brits 25 to mark the awards’ quarter century, will also feature a new category, the Brits 25 Best Song Award for the best British song since 1977.

U2, are reported to be performing at the event while Scot rockers [a] are being tipped to walk off with a string of awards, including those for Best Band and Best Single, according to Reuters.

[a][/a] will also receive the Outstanding Contribution To Music gong for his role in putting together the line-up for Band Aid in 1984 and Live Aid in 1985, along with his musical career achievements.

Meanwhile, McFly and Kate Melua are among the artists due to appear at the Brits 25 nominations, which will be announced later today (January 10).

Over the past 25 years the awards ceremony has raised more than £6 million for UK musical charities.

But this year organisers have teamed up with Save The Children to help youngsters affected by the Asian tsunami.

The BPI says a guaranteed £500,000 of proceeds from the event will go to the two-year project.

The Brits 25 will be hosted by Chris Evans and held at London’s Earl’s Court on February 9.
