The pair discuss fighting poverty
U2 frontman Bono has met Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to talk about fighting poverty.
Minister of Culture Gilberto Gil, who became famous as a pop music star before joining the government, joined the pair for lunch on Saturday (February 18).
U2, who last performed in Brazil in 1998 on the PopMart tour, are in the country to play two concerts today (February 20) and tomorrow in Sao Paulo.
Many fans waited outside the presidential retreat for a glimpse of the rocker, reports Reuters. One sign read ‘Bono For President Of United Nations’.
Bono has been active in working on poverty relief efforts in recent years, while Lula da Silva's best known social programme is called Zero Hunger.
