U2 win legal battle against stylist

Bono set to get hat back

U2 have won their legal battle against their former stylist, forcing her to hand over a hat and clothes she took from them nearly 20 years ago.

Frontman Bono told Dublin's High Court last month that Lola Cashman acquired the items without permission during the band's ‘Joshua Tree’ tour in 1987.

The items included a stetson hat, a pair of earrings, a sweatshirt and a pair of black trousers.

The group were also trying to get back a number of items reportedly seen at Cashman’s flat, including a video tape, rosary beads and a selection of photographs.

For her part, Cashman insisted they were gifts to her from the band. She appealed against a ruling that she must return them, reports the BBC.

With regards to the hat, Cashman claimed she had it “plonked” on her head when she asked for it on the last night of the tour in Arizona.
In 2002, Cashman put some of the memorabilia up for sale at auction house Christie's.

She claimed two letters sent to the auction house from U2 lawyers seeking their return were defamatory, and began proceedings against the band in the High Court in London.

U2 are currently on the Pacific leg of their ‘Vertigo’ world tour – the dates were postponed earlier in the year while one of the band dealt with a family illness.
