U2's Bono and The Edge have signed on to write music for the forthcoming Broadway musical, 'Spider-Man'.

The singer and guitarist will team up with director Julie Taymor to pen songs for the musical based on the Marvel Comics hero.

Rehearsals are set to begin on July 2, and directors are currently seeking a young man with a "great pop/rock voice" to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man, reports Playbill.com.

Bono and The Edge are not the only rockers to provide a soundtrack for the webbed crusader. The Killers, Flaming Lips Snow Patrol and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are among the bands contributing to the soundtrack for the forthcoming film 'Spider-Man 3', as previously announced.

This will not be U2's first foray into the comic book world. They also contributed the song 'Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me' to 1995's 'Batman Forever' soundtrack, and The Edge recorded the theme music to the American animated series 'The Batman'.
