U2 men aid victims of Hurricane Katrina

A fundraising auction of music memorabilia including The Edge's guitar and Bono's sunglasses shattered expectations and raised a record $2.4 million this weekend.

Proceeds from the auction will go toward Music Rising, a charity co-founded by The Edge to replace musical instruments lost or destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

The U2 guitarist donated a Gibson Les Paul that he has used on stage and in the studio since 1975.

Other auction items included a guitars owned by Jimi Hendrix and Paul McCartney, sunglasses worn by John Lennon and Bono, an Elvis Presley original recording contract, and Bruce Springsteen hand-written lyrics.

Hendrix's guitar fetched a whopping $480,000.
