U2 launched their new film ’U2 3D’ at the Cannes Film Festival last night (May 19).
The band played a short set at the French event to ahead of the premiere of the road film shot which was on the South American leg of their Vertigo Tour.
Bono and co performed ’Vertigo’ and ’Where The Streets Have No Name’ at the red carpet entrance to the Grand Theatre Lumiere, reports Reuters.
The film uses new three-dimensional camera technology that allows footage to get closer to the performers onstage than has been possible on previous live films.
The Cannes audience witnessed a 55-minute preview of the film, ahead of the full version (expected to be 90 minutes) which will be released internationally in around 1,000 3D equipped cinemas.
The film is not the only rock n roll movie to make an impact at this year’s film festival.
As previously reported, Joy Division film ’Control’ got its premiere at Cannes on Thursday (May 17).
