U2 and Green Day appear on John Lennon charity album

The record will benefit Darfur

U2 and Green Day are among the artists who have recorded covers of John Lennon tracks which will appear on a charity compilation to benefit Darfur.

The album will also feature contributions from the likes of REM, The Cure and Avril Lavigne.

’Make Some Noise: The Amnesty International Campaign To Save Darfur’ will be released on June 12 exclusively through iTunes, with 98 per cent of the profits going to Amnesty International. A physical release of the album will follow on June 25.

Speaking about the album Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono said: “We’re thrilled to be using John Lennon’s songs in our human rights work.”
