Bono is awarded for helping to tackle African poverty

U2 singer Bono has been awarded with the 'Man of Peace' prize by the Nobel peace laureates for helping to tackle African debt, poverty and disease.

Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe, who hosted the event, handed the frontman the Peace Summit Award in the presence of five Nobel winners.

"This is a very big award for me, because let's be honest this is as close as I am going to get, as close as a rock star is ever going to get to the Nobel Peace Prize," Bono said.

"I am an over-awarded, over-rewarded rock star. You are the people who do the real work."

Last year's recipients included Hollywood actors George Clooney and Don Cheadle, reports AFP.

In before the hate.Think about it, this man is using his platform to help the world, he deserves recognition. Just because we arn't all as well positioned as Bono to help those people in poverty doesn't mean we need to be asses about it.And don't draw the line between politics and music so much. Music has always been about politics, rock and roll was a cultural response to the political envrionment at the time, and this has always been the case. I find Bono a bit of a arrogent man sometimes, I still respect what hes trying to do in Africa, and you should too.

Helping to tackle African poverty, even though it hasn't actually been tackled? And he gets an award for making people who earn just about enough money to get by donate what they can? Never understood the concept of super rich megastars asking joe public for their money.

well, just because 'megastars' are rich it doesn't mean they have to give all their fortune away. they worked hard to earn their money, especially u2. read their biography and you'll understand. so Bono can give some money, but it's only rational that he's trying to help in other ways,too. whether it is collecting money for charities or anything else. respect.

The poor Africans whom Bono 'supports' work harder every day just to stay alive than Bono has worked in his life. I can't believe you can say he has "earned" his fortune. It's impossible to 'earn' that much money. He could give his daily millions of pounds in interest to Africa and still be no worse off then when he started. It's sickening

.........refering to himself as a "rock star" and not a singer i think is proof he's waaaaaaay up in the clouds...celebrity-staus bullshit but hats off to him for trying to do something positive for africa.....
