U2 pay tribute to late Dubliners singer

Band kick off Irish leg of world tour in Dublin

U2 singer Bono paid tribute to late Dubliners founder Ronnie Drew last night (July 24) as they kicked off their Irish and UK tour in Dublin.

The band covered 'Auld Triangle', a track by the former Irish folk outfit, at Croke Park in the first of three concerts at the stadium.

As previously reported on NME.COM, Drew died at the age of 73 last summer after battling ill health.

U2 later also dedicated the track 'Walk On' yet again to jailed Burmese politician Aung San Suu Kyi, who is currently on trial charged with breaking a security law.

During the track, thousands of fans wore a mask bearing her image.

The band played a series of tracks from their latest album 'No Line On The Horizon' alongside their greatest hits, reports BBC News.

U2 will continue their stadium tour in the UK with dates in London, Cardiff, Sheffield and Glasgow next month.
