Paul Simon also joined the band at Madison Square Garden show in New York

U2 were joined on stage at their New York show on Thursday (July 30) the woman who called emergency services when Bono injured his arm falling off his bike last year.

The show at Madison Square Garden also saw Paul Simon and Lou Reed’s widow Laurie Anderson join the band. Anderson appeared on stage as they covered Reed’s song ‘Satellite Of Love’.

Bono then announced that Alyssa, the woman who dialled emergency services after he crashed his bike in New York’s Central Park last December, was in the audience.

He said: “I am here today because, when I crashed my bike here in the city, a beautiful girl made a phone call to 911. She’s from Denver, but she’s here tonight.”

He also introduced the firefighters who helped attend the scene. Bono fractured his elbow, shoulder blade and eye socket on his left side in the accident.

After Bono handed Alyssa his microphone, she drew laughs from the 20,000 crowd as she announced: “I have to clarify, I’m from Washington DC, not Denver.”
